Cairo to Zoan (Tannis)

Left Cairo early. The drive through the city on the “freeway” was quite an experience! There were lines on the road, but most cars straddled them and squeezed in wherever there was room! There were even jaywalkers! instead of using orange cones to indicate a closed lane there were cement blocks.  Even so, the block were strewn about and cars were driving near or around them. Your car horn is very important when driving here! The guide told us that there are no stop lights or stop signs because if there were the traffic would not move!  We finally got out of the city and we weren’t sure where we were headed. After riding a few hours we finally reached our destination which looked like nothing at first sight. I was able to grab a quick breakfast and then we were on the bus about 10 and off to see our first pyramids.  We first went to Lake Fayum in the Fatyum basin. We also saw the Bahr Yussef (The waterway of Joseph). The landscape is very bleak due to the limited amount of rain. No a tree in sight around th...

Preparation!

In anticipation of our “trip of a lifetime to Egypt”, Odette and I decided to start walking in the hills/trails of Contra Loma regional Park. We decide to meet at 7 AM so we could use the fresh energy we have in the morning. We both agreed that without each other as motivation we would never do it on our own! First morning out!
